Compress Images To Save Space

So you have a ton of photos, you can't delete them but can't keep them either because you're running out of space. The only option is to die. Well, surprisingly there's another solution. You can compress photos without affecting the quality of them.

Here's how it's done:

  • It's a software named Caesium. Go to this site, scroll down and download it first.
Caesium is a small software around 16MB. It's completely free. This software is mostly effective when compressing photos taken from DSLR cameras.

  •   When the download is complete, open it and you'll see an interface like this.

  • It's pretty easy to figure out how to compress photos. Nevertheless, I'll say how because I want you to say here for a little bit longer. I'm lonely here. The steps are as follows.
  1. Add your photos using the icon to the left upper corner.
  2. Adjust the bar on the bottom-left to lower the size as you desire. I've tried 50% and felt no difference in quality. But feel free to experiment around the settings.
  3. Select the output folder on the bottom-right.
  4. Compress!
The default settings are good so it's better if you don't meddle around other settings if you have no idea what you are doing. Because I hold no responsibility if you deform your photos, break your leg or cause a nuclear war.
But actually nothing could go wrong because you still have the original photos.

There's another advantage of compressing photos. Because after compressing, it takes less data and time to upload them to an online storage like Google Drive. So it becomes easier for you to upload your photos, too and clear even more space on the hard drive!

Bonus

For those who don't like installing stuff on PC and prefer an online solution, this site is a good option. It's completely free and quick.

Features:
  • Compress multiple images at once
  • Select compression level
  • Directly save to Dropbox or Google Drive
  • Download all items at once
Note: If the quality seems bad after compressing, go to Advanced settings below and set the compression mode to Low

This online solution was suggested by a fellow reader of this blog. Thank you!

So that's how it's done.
Feel free to leave a comment if you have any issue.
