Stop Windows 10 Updates Permanently

You're doing something useless as always on your PC, you go away for a few minutes and yeah, they're installing some 'important' updates. And you're gonna have to wait for hours to do nothing again. Also, you'll have to spend one more hour to find what was so 'important' because you don't see anything changed.

So here's how to stop those annoying updates.

There are two ways to do this:
  1. Using a third party software
  2. By adjusting Windows settings

1) Using a third party software

This method is quick, easy and reliable than the second one. The software is named "WinAero Tweaker". You can download it using this direct link (2.51MB).

The process is pretty simple
  1. Install the software
  2. Open an type "Windows updates" in the small search bar on the top left corner
  3. Select the search result and turn off updates
You can perform a LOT more tweaks using this software, too. Disabling Windows updates is just one of them.

2) By adjusting Windows settings

Step 1 - Adjust Settings

Go to Action Center -> All Settings -> Update & Security -> Advanced Options

Now change the settings as shown in the screenshot below.

Don't pause updates because after 35 days, No one will be be able to stop Windows from installing updates. Not even Captain Marvel.

Step 2 - Disable Services

Go to: Right click Computer -> Manage -> Services and Applications -> Services.

Alright, now disable Windows Update service and Delivery Optimization service, set Startup type to Disabled and click OK.

At this point, if you're bored, just know that in 2006 someone tried to sell New Zealand on ebay.

Step 3 - Connection

Set your current internet connection as a metered connection. To to this, go to Settings -> Network & Internet -> Change connection properties

Now turn on Set as metered connection.

Make sure that you do not miss any of the above steps. Automatic updates should stop after following those steps.

Step 4 (Optional) - Active Hours

Just in case, set the active hours to a time period you won't be using your computer even if it was a life and death situation, if you wanna avoid unexpected restarts.

Go to Action Center -> All Settings -> Update & Security -> Active Hours and do that... thing.

And lastly...

Done! That's it. You won't get automatic updates ever again. I'm currently using my PC on those settings and I never get any updates. But it's recommended to update Windows at least once or twice a year. Now that automatic updates are disabled, you can use Media Creation Tool to update windows.
